PAGE MENU...
The Belmont PAC executive welcomes all new students and parents to the school, as well as new staff and administration, and extends a big ‘glad to see you back’ for those returning to the school this year. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. There are several ways a parent can be involved at the high school level. If you are available to help out for the occasional school activity please contact one of the executive members.
Please keep your school calendar handy as band concerts and other school events are shown, and it is great to have parents out. PAC meetings are also listed on the calendar, please attend even one, if you are able. It is a good chance to connect with other families attending the same school; also we always have an administrator attend who informs of us some of the day to day activities or daytime events. It is important for parents to have direct contact with the school.
The mission of the Belmont Secondary
School Parent Advisory Council is to advocate for excellence in
education, the safety and well being of our students and the
effective and meaningful involvement of parents as partners. All
Belmont parents are members of the PAC and are encouraged to attend
meetings.
Meetings run from 7:00 to 8:30/9:00 and are held in room 130. The
doors at the back of the school near the office are unlocked for us,
please come in through those doors.
PAC meetings will usually be on the THIRD TUESDAY of each month. Please
confirm dates with school office, or check this site for updates.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The Career Development Committee consists of Belmont’s two work
experience coordinators, the Career Education teacher, our
district’s Career Advisor, and parents. Students and parents at
Belmont are fortunate to have a Career Services Centre with a
supportive staff available to arrange job shadowing, go over work
experience opportunities, assist with scholarship applications, and
much more. Please visit
Belmont’s Career Centre, next to the counseling suite, if you
have any questions or concerns about ‘What Happens After High
School?’
IMPORTANT DATES:
Please see the Counselling Department's website for further information.
We can always use parent help at school functions, if you are available during the day and willing to help please contact the PAC president. Contact a member of the PAC executive if you would like to be a part of the Career Development Committee. We meet three or four times in the school year. Look for the Career Development newsletter with your students’ report cards.
COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS BETWEEN PARENT, TEACHER AND STUDENT
Belmont's Parent Advisory
Council (PAC) meets monthly on first Tuesdays. All Belmont
parents are automatically members and are encouraged to attend.
The function of the PAC is to advise and help Belmont in a
variety of ways and to inform and support parents.
The Sooke Parents Education Advisory Council (S.P.E.A.C.) has produced a pamphlet - Parent Appeal Process Guide - to help promote parent, teacher and student communications. This guide for parents outlines steps to follow when parents have a concern. The guide suggests the following:
Always start with the teacher.
Next, the principal or a vice-principal will endeavor to address the concern at the school level.
A director of instruction or superintendent can be called if the concern is not resolved at the school.
Next, parents have the option of writing a letter to the school board are requesting to make a formal presentation.
If the above appeal process has been followed, but the concern remains unresolved, the ombudsman can be contacted.
Copies of the S.P.E.A.C. Parent Appeal Process Guide can also be obtained at the main office in Belmont or the reception desk at the School District Office.
